Swimmers salvation. During the long hot
months of summer, VORTEX Spring is the "Fountain
of Cool". Day visitors and campers flock to
these waters to escape the heat and to play. The
Swimming area slopes gently from shallow to
deeper water. There's a diving board, two high
jump platforms, a "zip line", 2 swimming pool sized slides, and
the favorite toy...the "ole' fashion" rope
swing. Water entry from these toys is fun and
refreshing. There are no weeds, no sticky
saltwater, and no sharks or jellyfish. Thirteen
different species of freshwater fish may be seen
& fed from the entry docks. Lunker size
"Bass" and the prehistoric looking "Gar" are present as
well. Large schools of record "Blue Gill" are
tame enough to eat out of your hand, adding to
this photographers paradise. We are serious
about NO FISHING! The only way to catch these
fish is on camera. Underwater camera equipment
is available in the dive shop. Paddle boating around the spring
basin or down "Blue Creek" run is a remarkable
experience. Occasionally deer,
beaver, and wild turkey have been spotted on the
banks of the creek while canoeing.
